Experience
I have worked with a wide variety of students from pre-school through adults. I have also concentrated my academic teaching within public and private schools in special education on the elementary and middle school levels. My passion for helping others resulted in my beginning my own private tutoring business of more than 20 years. Since my retirement 6 years ago, I have continued to work with individuals 1 on 1 and online tutoring. I have been substituting this past school year as well. I love working with students and find tutoring to be very rewarding. It is during this time I can actually see that "light bulb" go off in the student's eyes when they realize they have finally understood something they've struggled with for so long. What a rewarding feeling that is when I witness that realization and joy. I continue refreshing my personal skills by attending workshops, seminars, and additional college courses. I am presently writing a book based on personal experience caring for a loved one suffering with depression. I am also writing presentations to take out to the public so as to educate them about depression, the signs and symptoms, and how to help those they see or know who are struggling with sadness. The main reason is to give those struggling with depression a platform to tell their story which allows their voices to be heard. The goal is to break the stigma that follows those with mental illness, especially those with depression.
